But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod – 1 Samuel 2:18.
Samuel was not only a prophet, but he was also priest. His mother, Hannah, had prayed and asked God for a son and promised that if God answered her prayer, she would give her son to God to be raised in the temple. Samuel therefore grew up in the temple under the tutelage of Eli the priest. 1 Samuel 16:13 says, ‘So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.’
When Samuel was older, God commanded him to go to Jesse’s house and anoint one of his sons king, and David was that son. Samuel therefore anointed David king. It takes a priest to anoint a king. Priests are kingmakers. Revelation 5:10 says, ‘And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.’ God has called us to be kings and priests so that we may reign on the earth, in this age and the one to come. It’s the priest in us who anoints the king in us to rule and reign with Christ. Priests offer sacrifices and kings rule and reign. For the king to reign, the priest must first offer sacrifices to God.
When we live as priests before God and offer spiritual sacrifices to Him, we’ll rule and reign with Christ in this life and the life to come. When we deny ourselves and take up our cross daily and offer our bodies to God as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing unto Him, we’ll possess the gates of our enemies and the gates of hell shall not prevail against us. But if we live in sin, we’ll walk in defeat in every area of our lives, and in the age to come, God will throw us in the lake of fire. So activate your priest, he’ll make a king out of you, and you’ll rule and reign with Christ in this life and the life to come.
DECLARATION:
The priest in me is a kingmaker. I activate the priest in me by carrying my cross daily that I may rule and reign with Christ in this life and the life to come. Glory to God!
